Sderng Sarith said Mei Kimhong confessed to the crime, adding that he killed the victim, Ly Davy, because she was rude and insulted him.
"The arrest was made after the authorities checked security camera [footage] from a villager living nearby, and they saw the suspect stabbing the victim," Sarith confirmed.
Police arrested Kimhong, who confessed during interrogation. According to Kimhong’s confession, he disliked Davy because she looked down on him and would spit in his direction every time she passed him. This behavior, he said, aggravated him and he had been planning to kill her for some time.
The police accounts show that Davy was headed to the market to buy food, when Kimhong, riding his motorcycle, stabbed her in the back with a knife, only to make a quick escape once nearby villagers were alerted to the incident.
Kimhong, who is a mathematics student at the Royal University of Phnom Penh, has been charged with intentional murder and is currently being held in the Tuol Kork district police station.
