6 First Class Emirs Join UNC To Fight Inter-religious Rivalry

The United Nigerian Chaplaincy (UNC) has announced that about six first class emirs have joined the corps in a bid to ensure sustainable peace among religious groups.
UNC’s international commandant-general, Professor Jidejisos Josiah Ejie, disclosed this yesterday at a swearing-in and decoration ceremony of 11 new officers who replaced those that were dismissed from the corps.
Prof Ejie said the Muslim traditional rulers include the Emir of Talata Mafara in Zamfara State, Dr Bello Mohammed Barmo, and Emir of Machina in Yobe State, Bashir Bukar, among others.
He said that as part of their mandate, UNC is already on ground in Kogi and Bayelsa to ensure that the forthcoming elections in the two states go on without violence.
“Our officers are moving throughout the local governments and in schools to sensitise the people on the need to maintain peace and avoid violence.
“They are working on the minds of the people in churches and mosques. We preach tolerance; we tell everyone to practise his religion and allow another to do same,” he told LEADERSHIP.
On the global threats posed by terrorism, Ejie said that by bringing the Muslims to join forces with the Christians, they are teaching Nigerians that they can live peaceably with one another.
