UNC Officials Averts Crisis As Youths Pounce On Reckless Driver In Nasarawa

Officials of the United Nigerian Chaplaincy (UNC) on Saturday arrested what would have escalated into a religious crisis as angry youths descended on a reckless driver and his vehicle in Ado, Karu council area of Nasarawa State.
The youths, mostly motorcycle riders were said to have been heading for Friday’s Jumat prayer service, when the driver hit down one of them and sped off.
The driver was still moving when the youths gathered in their numbers violently attacked him and his car but for the members of the UNC who were on hand at the scene, the situation could have gone out of control.
The UNC, a paramilitary corps that is using religion to unite Nigerians had on Friday joined their Muslim colleagues to observe Friday prayers saying the essence of the meeting was to show that Nigerians can live together irrespective of ideologies.
Chaplain Ezekiel Joshua, UNC Northern zonal commander said “Nigeria can never be divided because what you need in your land for your benefit is in another mans land.”
“Any time we want to name our children in Islamic culture, we use kola nut but we don’t a single tree of kola nut in the north. The Yorubas eat the most pepper which is grown in the north,” he told Muslim leaders after the prayer service.
Responding, the traditional ruler of Ado, Mallam Zakari Ibrahim who converged a gathering of Muslims leaders shortly after the prayer commended the corps for their selfless service adding that if Nigeria had many of such groups, it would move forward.
He said “if you want to like a child, you have to discipline the child before he becomes something else. With the way you people have started now, if indigenes cannot do it, we believe you can do it.”
Also, a deputy Imam at the Ado Mosque, Umar Garba said he appreciates the way UNC is performing its duty and solicited for government support to help the corps perform its mandate.
“This organisation, I’m very much sure will lead Nigeria to be united because the two major religions have organised themselves to unite the people of Nigeria and all the youths here are trained and dedicated to serve this nation,” the Imam added.
